AKÜ and Afyonkarahisar Municipality for Street Animals Collaboration

Afyon Kocatepe University (AKÜ) and Afyonkarahisar Municipality signed a cooperation protocol titled “Examination, Diagnosis and Treatment of Diseases of Stray Animals”. Within the scope of the signed protocol, the vaccination, examination, diagnosis and treatment of stray animals in Afyonkarahisar were carried out at Afyon Kocatepe University Veterinary Health Application and Research Center (Kocatepe Animal Hospital).

AKÜ Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Şuayıp Özdemir and Prof. (Kocatepe Animal Hospital) Chief Physician Assoc. Dr. Deniz Yeni were also present during the protocol signed by AKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakaş and Afyonkarahisar Mayor Mehmet Zeybek.

“We attach importance to the care and regulation of stray animals”

Speaking at the protocol signing ceremony, Afyonkarahisar Mayor Mehmet Zeybek stated that as Afyonkarahisar Municipality, they attach great importance to the care and harmony of stray animals, and said, “Animals that roam the streets without tags, without control and sometimes attack people are registered, their numbers are naturally checked during their treatment, neutering and rehabilitation.”

AKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakaş drew attention to the importance of university-city cooperation. Rector Karakaş said, “We are striving to cooperate in every field with our President. This is a protocol for an activity that we will continue in a different way now, especially the harmony of stray animals, which we started earlier. The issue of stray animals has been an important issue in Turkey, as it has been all over the world in recent years, and we evaluate this issue as an activity that can be stopped before it turns into a problem for our people and animals.”
